Shown around the world to wide acclaim, VALENTINO THE LAST EMPEROR is a feature film that has captured the hearts and imaginations of audiences. It is a behind-the-scenes look at the world of fashion, featuring unprecedented access to the high temples of Haute Couture. The legendary Valentino is the star of the film, along with his longtime business partner, Giancarlo Giammetti. VALENTINO THE LAST EMPEROR follows them for the final two years of their careers, and shows the struggles the two men face as they confront the final act of a nearly 50-year career at the top of the world's most glamorous and competitive game. The struggle of art against commerce is at the center of the film. In the end, however, the story proves to be not one about money or expensive clothes, but about love.
Synopsis:
VALENTINO THE LAST EMPEROR is a feature-length film on the legendary designer Valentino Garavani in the wake of his exit in 2008 from the company he founded in Rome more than 45 years ago. Produced and directed by Matt Tyrnauer, Special Correspondent for Vanity Fair magazine, the film is an intimate, engaging and very funny fly-on-the-wall exploration of the singular world of one of Italy's richest and most famous men. The film documents the colorful and dramatic closing act of Valentino’s celebrated career, tells the story of his extraordinary life and work, and also explores the larger themes affecting the fashion business today. But at the heart of the film is the unique relationship between Valentino and his business partner and companion of 50 years, Giancarlo Giammetti.
Since its release on March 18, 2009, "Valentino The Last Emperor" has been playing in almost 200 theaters. It is still playing in selected cities nationwide and in Canada. The "Valentino" Team is also pleased to announce our upcoming release in AUSTRALIA on September 17.

The contest was organized to celebrate the theatrical release of "Valentino The Last Emperor", the hit documentary feature about Italian fashion designer and pug owner Valentino. The winners were selected by Mr. Valentino himself from among the 475 pugs who entered the contest between March 18 and April 17, 2009. Thank you to all who entered.
Ito‚ dressed as one of the most fashionable women on the planet, Vogue's Anna Wintour. His full name is Ito Montgomery Aldridge-Lungren. He will turn five on September 6th and has a little sister Evie Irene, a black pug who is three. He lives in the Bernal Heights of San Francisco with his parents John Aldridge and Eric Lungren. When proclaiming the winner, Valentino exclaimed, "You cannot talk fashion without talking Anna Wintour!"
Jolly, looking very glamorous in a toile de Jouy dress. Owned by Sarah Horton of Hampton, New Hampshire, Jolly tells us her designer was inspired by a dress in a Cortina shop window, and thought the color and silhouette would suit Jolly. Obviously, Valentino agreed.
Blue, Bono and Roxy who reside in Rohnert Park, CA with their parents, Philip and Susan Lauer. They wear parkas designed by Susan; perhaps Valentino will invite them all to Gstaad next winter?

THE PERFECT LIFE (30 Minutes) takes the viewer inside Valentino’s homes around the world, revealing the unique lifestyle he’s created for himself and the amount of work it takes to maintain it. We follow Michael Kelly, Valentino’s Irish majordomo, as he prepares a lavish party at Chateau Wideville, Valentino’s estate outside of Paris. In the style of Robert Altman’s Gosford Park, we go back and forth between upstairs, where Valentino entertains his guests, and downstairs, where Michael Kelly directs the army of waiters, chefs and maids. In a second chapter, we fly on the private aircraft with Valentino and his entourage to Gstaad for a vacation at the glamorous ski resort. Lastly, we discover Valentino’s residence on Fifth Avenue, as Valentino visits New York for the Costume Institute Benefit Gala.
In THE LAST COLLECTION (8 Minutes), we see Valentino’s farewell haute couture show. The show took place in January 2008 in Paris, five month after Valentino announced his retirement. Memorable for its all-red finale, the show was a last homage to Valentino’s creative genius, attended by the likes of Uma Thurman, Claudia Schiffer and Muccia Prada.
A RED DRESS (8 Minutes) takes us inside Valentino’s Rome haute couture workshop where the seamstresses work on the red dress that is featured in the movie. Antonietta De Angelis reveals some of her secrets about dressmaking and working for Valentino.
